EUROMOT's preliminary position on Machinery Directive Review

From 14 January until 11 February 2019, the European Commission allowed stakeholders to express their feedback on a roadmap to evaluate and review the EU Machinery Directive (Directive 2006/42/EC).  This is a preliminary step in the review process: a 12-week detailed public consultation is expected to be launched in the upcoming weeks, and the final review report (possibly accompanied by new amending legislative proposal) should only be published in the second quarter of 2020. The response provided by EUROMOT focuses on one point: the definition of “Partly Completed Machinery”, which the EU Commission may decide to modify and clarify. EUROMOT has made clear that any possible modifications related to the understanding of the current definition of PCM should not change the interpretation given in the European Commission’s Guide to the application of the MD, whereby an internal combustion engine is to be considered as PCM.  EUROMOT will keep closely monitoring the MD review process and intends to actively contribute to its next steps.
