German transposition law on the Medium Combustion Plant Directive enters into force

On 19 June, the long-waited “Verordnung über mittelgroße Feuerungs-, Gasturbinen- und Verbrennungsmotoranlagen – 44. BImSchV” was published in the German Federal law Gazette. It is the German transposition law of the EU Medium Combustion Plant Directive (Directive (EU) 2015/2193), regulating emissions from installations with a rated thermal input equal to or greater than 1 Megawatt thermal (MWth) and less than 50 MWth. It officially entered into force on 20 June.

With the publication of the German law, all 28 EU Member States have transposed the MCPD into their national legislation: thus, after years of intense discussions (since the publication of the Directive in 2015), the whole transposition process of a crucial piece of legislation for EUROMOT has been finalized.
